This is the world's largest international birdwatching event. The fair traditionally takes place on the weekend before the August bank holiday from Friday through Sunday and is held at Rutland Water Oakham (105 miles north of London).
The BirdFair is a joint RSPB (Royal Society for the Preservation of Birds) and Wildlife Trust event and has absolutely everything that any self-respecting twitcher could dream of with hundreds of stalls selling and promoting the latest products, books, trips and ideas for wildlife enthusiasts no matter how serious they are!
The fair includes a full programme of events each day
including lectures, quiz shows, question and answer sessions, book
launches and family-based entertainment. Several well known safari
personalities including Simon King, Jonathan and Angie Scott will be
around...

Sir David Attenborough is responsible for the celebrity lecture this year - book in advance for The Broadway Theatre, Peterborough on Saturday 16th August at 8.00pm!
Chris and John are hosting an interactive workshop on "how to plan and pack for a safari" on the Friday (14:30)
Chris will be conducting "walking safaris" through the Rutland bush as part of the main events programme on Friday (14:00), Saturday (11:00 and 14:00) and Sunday (11:00)
For full details of all the events and directions on how to
get to Rutland go to
www.birdfair.org.uk. Tickets are available at the gate for £10,
children under 16 enjoy free entry.
Remember to set your dates for the 2010 BirdFair on TBA.
We'll have an update on some our tried and tested trips and simple safari modules and short breaks that include traditional venues and circuits (Victoria Falls, Cape Town, the Okavango, the Serengeti). We'll be on hand to discuss some exciting new developments in Victoria Falls.
Zambia is still southern Africa's number one safari destination - we have some very special ideas for lower Zambezi canoe safaris and our walking safaris which offer a simple combination of both the Luangwa and Zambezi valleys.
We have a fresh selection of safaris using small seasonal bush camps and lodges located in off the beaten path spots including the Moremi, Selinda, the Kalahari, Makgadikgadi Pans, Mana Pools, the upper and lower Zambezi, Kafue, North and South Luangwa valley, Mahale, Katavi, Ruaha, Selous and northern Kenya. We have some really exciting developments happening in Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya - make an appointment with Trish or John.
Once again we'll be hosting a few privately guided photographic and specialist safaris in Gabon, the Central African Republic, Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda this season. Space is always limited on these trips so please make appointments with Chris or John.
Zimbabwe and Kenya have had their fair share of bad
news this season. Fi Thompson of Bush and Beyond in Kenya will
be on hand for the latest in Kenya, Trish will have the absolute
latest from our Zimbabwe offices.
Dawn Parr of the Botswana Tourism Board will be with us on Saturday and Sunday to field enquiries and queries on the latest in Botswana.
We're launching two specific birding safaris arranged by Wilderness Safaris. The first combines Pafuri and Mashatu, the second combines Rocktail Bay and Phinda.
See us about some of our "extraordinary safaris" for this and next season, chat to John about a few "expeditionary" trips that we're working on too!
Take a peek at some old and some new safaris for this and next season
or take a look at the full range of "civilised enclaves in Africa's wilderness areas"
