Lioness Photo from Classic Africa Safaris

Zambezi logo

A prowling lioness in Mana Pools.  Lionesses are generally more active hunters than males and work most effectively in a pride.

Lion charges are rare with the males tending to bluff, and the females only really becoming a problem if they have cubs.  Wounded lions, male or female can be very aggressive and are best given a wide berth.

Lions are generally found sleeping during the day and tend to become more active at night.
