Elephant mock charge

Zambezi logo

An elephant in mock charge whilst on safari in Mana Pools with Classic Africa Safaris.

Mock charges by bull elephants occur when they feel threatened, cows are generally more serious and tend to give it a full tilt.

Clive Walker in his latest edition of "Signs of the Wild" describes a full charge as experienced by Neil Murray: "The elephant often charges to the accompaniment of a blast of a high-pitched trumpeting - caused by forcibly expelling air from its trunk - which sounds like an orchestra of outraged demons.  Except perhaps for the prospect of imminent hanging, there can be few situations that concentrate the mind more wonderfully."
