Highlights

  • The chance to encounter some of the largest elephants in Africa in Amboseli National Park.
  • Escape the crowds with a stay at an authentic, eco friendly bush camp in one of the less populated areas of the Masai Mara at either Elephant Pepper Camp or upgrade to one of the most luxurious and exclusive camps in the Masai Mara, Cottars 1920s Camp
  • Round off your safari with the chance to unwind at one of Kenya’s most idyllic coastal retreats.

Tortilis Camp, AmboseliTortilis Camp, Amboseli

  • Tortilis Camp is situated just outside the park in one of Amboseli's few remaining areas of unspoilt woodland, with the majestic backdrop of snow-capped Kilimanjaro.
  • The 17 tents are all large and spacious, with en suite bathrooms complete with steaming hot showers and modern flush loos.
  • Facilities include a swimming pool, a main lounge, bar and dining area, all built with natural materials and thatched roofs, with magnificent views of Kilimanjaro.

Elephant Pepper Campelephant pepper camp, masai mara

  • Elephant Pepper Camp is seasonal and is dismantled for three months of the year. The spacious canvas tents, with an en suite dressing room, eco-friendly flush loos and safari showers, are comfortably furnished.
  • Extended game drives which continue into the evening make game viewing a complete experience.
  • Elephant Pepper Camp brings people back to nature, no traffic, no permanent structures obstructing your view, just the sights and sounds of the African bush.

Cottars 1920s CampCottar's 1920 camp, Masai Mara Group Ranches, Kenya

  • The Cottar Safari tradition began in 1919. Today Cottars offers a return to the original spirit and essence of ‘safari’, reminiscent of a golden era.
  • The camp is situated in the south east of the Masai Mara, bordering the Serengeti and Loliondo reserves in an untouched exclusive concession guaranteeing privacy and an abundance of wildlife.
  • Guided bush walks, river swimming and day and night game drives are one of the highlights of this area. Cottars is one of the only small luxury properties in the Mara with a swimming pool.

Manda Bay, Lamu ArchipelagoManda Bay, Lamu Archipelago

  • Manda Bay is located on the north western tip of Manda Island, one of the many unspoiled, idyllic islands of the Lamu archipelago.
  • An exclusive resort surrounded by miles of white sand, Manda Bay offers relaxation, water sports, dhow safaris and luxurious pampering
  • From Manda Bay we have access to Lamu and Shela Village for a taste of authentic Swahili culture.

Best time of the year

  • This safari is best planned during August and September - book in advance!
  • Kenya’s climate and altitude make it a great year round destination. Over most of the country there are two rainy seasons: the ‘Short’ rains which occur from late October through November and the ‘Long’ rains which occur from late March to early June.
  • If you visit during a rainy period you’ll find that the rain usually falls in the late afternoon preceded by bright, sunny and fresh days.
    • July and August are the coolest months and are often overcast especially in the morning.
    • December to mid March is the warmest time of the year.
  • The migration is in the Masai Mara between July and October but space can be at a premium.
  • Cottars and Elephant Pepper Camp are closed throughout the months of April and May. Manda Bay closes from mid April to mid July.  [See additional information on the coastal seasons at Manda Bay, Lamu]

Best Access

This safari starts and finishes in Nairobi. International flights arrive into Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and all regional departures leave from Wilson.
